They are open and finished with renovations. Looks nice inside. The thai iced tea size for take out is smaller than I would like.

Note: Sweet Rice is currently CLOSED for renovations. I'm hopefully preventing others from driving all the way out there to leave disappointed, like I did last night. I just rated them with their current Yelp rating of 3 stars, but will update with a real review once they open and I get to try their food!

I've dined in and gotten takeout several times from here and haven't had a single bad experience. I personally love their food and the hot, big portions they give you while dining in are really delicious. There is a bit of a wait for food, but they have good customer service and a really beautiful interior. The decorations on the walls and comfy booths make it a really enjoyable experience. This is the one place I go to for Thai in Falls Church.

After I hung up from ordering from Sweet Rice tonight, I realized that, after enjoying Sweet Rice since we moved here in 2006, I have never written a Yelp review of it! We have gotten delivery on average once/twice a month for a few years, and before that, we'd physically go into the restaurant both with (but mostly without) kids. Initially, we would order Pad Thai Pak (chock full of fresh veggies) and Pad See-Ew; a couple years ago we switched to the curry after a friend ordered Panang Curry while at our house, and we haven't gone back. Cashew Chicken is also a favorite. In nine years, we've had incredibly consistent good and excellent experiences, the food delicious, incredible service in-restaurant, and amazingly fast delivery...I'll never forget this past winter, on three occasions the delivery man warned us "not to come out--roads were way too icy or snowy to travel"-and yet our food arrived hot!! Now it's the only Thai place in Falls Church we eat.

The food is pretty good here, but the service is just okay. Went on a Friday at 6pm. Just 1 of 2 tables at that time and the kitchen was SLOW in making our food (3 appetizers, 2 noodle dishes and 1 duck entree). The fried tofu appetizer was good as was the special duck roll appetizer. I'd pass on the calamari next time. The pad Thai was ok - nothing to sing about, the pad won seen was good and the spicy crispy duck entree was very good, except for the fresh cut carrots on the side of the plate that tastes rotten :-(. Service slow - food was pretty decent - price typical - hard to find good and cheap ethnic food!

So we went to the actual restaurant for dinner, and I have to say it was more or less average--average prices for fairly average food, average portions... literally the whole thing was nothing special, middle-of-the-road, typical, ordinary, boilerplate... a solid 3 stars. Don't get me wrong, it's not a BAD place to eat, and if you don't go to many Asian places you might be impressed, but in the future I'll probably stick to delivery with this place.

I ordered carry-out from this place. The food was just too sweet for my taste. The noodles were also just a little too overdone. But the service was prompt, the food was ready in 20min from when i called, and the dining room was also very nice from what I saw. The mango sticky rice was also sub-par.

Drunken noodle wasn't good at all.

I called in and I ordered for delivery. The lady on the phone was polite and patient as I was still reviewing the menu, I ordered a Chicken Pad Thai, Curry Puffs, and a Thai iced tea. The delivery was here in like 30 minutes. Again the person was polite, however the food wasn't all that, it lacked flavor and was quite dry. Usually there is some sauce on the Pad Thai but this didn't have that. I did not finish the meal, as it just didn't really intrigue me. Maybe next time I will go into the restaurant and see how it goes.

First time here very comparable to Tara Thia but at a reduced price. The wait staff is very concerned if something is not right. Definite come back.

  • Ryan K.

Had the chicken pad Thai takeout and it was fine, nothing overwhelmingly good or bad about it. With so many other (better) options nearby I probably won't be back

  • Bill A.

Dropped in here for a quick lunch, had the Tom yum soup which was very nice and flavorful, but the pork belly special was fantastic. Who can't enjoy pork belly combined with Thai chili and garlic sauce and sweet basil....with a nick kick. Recommend highly.

Not really sure why this place does not get better reviews. The food is solid, the prices are extremely reasonable, and the service is just about the nicest in the area. I like eating in better than delivery, which can take a while, but it's all good. Eat here

One of the best Thai restaurant in this area. I had been here a few times. My favorite is still the Panang Seafood. The curry was absolutely delicious. I like it that they cook it pretty fast and I never had to wait any more than 15minutes. It is cheap too.

  • Tim K.

Small place, small parking lot. I ordered Gang Gai(Green Curry) which had good flavor but slightly salty. They give you a very small bowl of rice with the dish but they charge $1 per extra bowl of rice. In my opinion, either give more rice in the beginning or don't charge for extra rice. I've been to other Thai restaurants where they gave you extra rice free of charge.

In ordering take out, it's so very rare that one gets completely floored and totally satisfied by by the absolute awesomeness of the food. Literally, in every container of tonight's meal, one favorite dish was better then the next favorite dish and favorites were impossible to pick. For our group, we ordered larb, a delightful soup, green curry (gang gai), red curry, panang curry, pad thai, and a duck dish...and everything was exceptional! Perhaps the only one that was average was the pad thai but that may be because by that point, we already satisfied ourselves with all else. I can't wait to order from here again. Sweet Rice really is sweeeeeeet!

My go-to Thai takeout spot. Always ready in 15-20 minutes, friendly and efficient service, and yummy. Our standbys here are pad se ew, cashew chicken, and wild pork. Delicious! It looks pretty ramshackle from the outside but is very nicely decorated inside, so I suspect it would be nice enough to dine in, too, though I've never done so.

This is my go-to Thai restaurant in Falls Church. It's never super crowded and they always seat you right away. The decor is nice and it has a relaxing ambiance. The staff is always very friendly. My favorites are the tom kha gai soup and pad thai. The only reason I'm giving a four star rating is because there's nothing about Sweet Rice that makes me want to keep going back. Everything is good, but nothing makes it addicting or makes it stand out as the best.

  • Tae K.

Found a good thai restaurant in this area. It's cheaper and better than Tara Thai. Drunken noodle had just the right amount of heat and good amount of meat. My wife got the pineapple fried rice and it was very flavorful. Tom yum goong was not bad, not the best. Thai tea was pretty good as well. Pros - reasonable price, clean and simple decor. Flavorful dishes and good portion Cons - Location is a bit off. It's hidden amongst the automative stores across from a shopping center. Not many parking spots We'll probably come back to get our thai food fixes if we don't want to venture too far out. Will have to try their pad thai and curry dishes next time

Went for lunch and was blown away by the food! I was not expecting AMAZING, perfectly fried soft shell crabs in the heart of Falls Church. Seriously a wonderful surprise! Plus points: 1. The aforementioned softshell crabs 2. The cellophane noodles are delicate and well seasoned 3. The mango sticky rice dessert done with black sticky rice - very cool 4. A Kaprow Chicken actually worth writing home about! Meh : 1. Papaya salad was overly sweet 2. Satay needed a wee bit more time on the grill 3. Tom Yum Goong could have been more spicy(but to be fair could have been going for the Western palate) Also - they have a bucket of 6 Singha beers for $20! that's an awesome happy hour. recommend :)

Just ordered delivery from them. Had place an order through grub Hub, but after over an hour and 20 mins passing of no food coming we decided to call them. Upon calling they tell us that they never received our grub hub order and proceeded to ask for our payment info again. After this debacle on the phone the food miraculously showed up within 5 minutes. The fried rice was a gloopy mess of clearly poorly steamed rice that had never touched a frying pan. Lacking in flavor and seasoning. The laab gai was decent but a lot of lettuce and not as much chicken as I'd hoped. Spring rolls were the best part... Not that they were a highlight by any means. Overall thoroughly disappointed with this restaurant after reviews led me to believe otherwise. Don't eat this shit.

:::4.5 STARS::: Reasonably priced Thai spot We ordered: -Thai Iced Tea and Coke -Spring Rolls -Summer Rolls -2 order of Chicken Pad Pik Phing Thai Hot Food: No complaints. Our Pad Pik Phing was made a little differently than I am used to it being made. Instead of the traditional red curry that I am accustomed to seeing, it appeared to be in a brownish sauce. However, the dish was delicious! The taste wasn't off too much, and wasn't anything that we didn't enjoy. Was it Thai Hot? Ummm... NO. LOL However, I think I will die of shock the day that a Thai spot actually makes my food Thai Hot w/o having dined there a few times. The only place I've ever gotten my food Thai hot went I asked for it that way the first time was inThailand. So, since I live in the States, we just use the spice tray til the chef gets to know and trust we won't send our food back. Portion size: Portion size was a little on the modest side. Nevertheless, this restaurant prices are a little lower than most Thai restaurants. We didn't leave hungry... I still have left overs. Service: Attentive without being overbearing If I lived in Falls Church, I'd be a regular here. Cute little hidden gem.

Awesome! Good fresh food. Try the Mango Colada!! The staff is also friendly. I would recommend to all Thai food lovers.

Sweet rice delivers!!!! In a very suburban white town, it's hard to find anything besides meh pizza or overpriced meh Chinese food for delivery. But for around $10/entree, and frustrated communications with the person taking down your address, SR will deliver pretty all right thai food within 45 minutes (I think within a 5 mile radius?). As far as the food, it's okay. You can't go wrong with fried rice, pad Thai, or drunken noodles! The kapow delight with beef is my go to, but it is inconsistent. If you're not expecting out of this world Thai food, or you want something quick to satiate your dinner cravings, come here.

Had a bad experience -- ordered pineapple rice and the rice tasted like burned food -- I kindly ask for another plate and the same taste was still there. Plus, they take forever to bring the check

    (2)
  • Zoe B.

My favorite Thai restaurant in the area because they are the only ones who know how to make a proper fried rice dish (except for the one time it arrived burnt). The same goes for the Pad Thai. Best in the area!! They know their seasoning and sauces much better than any of their competitors. I do think they charge too much for the Tom ka ghai compared to other places, but it's delicious so I will shell out the extra couple bucks. Their delivery service is usually prompt. My one complaint is that their website menu is rather jumbled and confusing and, since they don't include paper menus with their delivery, I am constantly having to log on to see what I would like to order. They would benefit from a makeover in that area.

Good Thai food. I have been here a few times but it is not my favorite Thai place in the area, but it is good enough that I have gone multiple times. I had the King tofu recently and it was tasty. Otherwise I recommend this place for take out because it is really fast and the prices are pretty good.

Ordered three items for delivery: only one was even slightly above average, the won ton soup. Otherwise I will look elsewhere for Thai. However, the delivery was right on time and the prices were right.

This is the best Carryout/Delivery Thai in Falls Church/Arlington! My fiance and I order from here often. The delivery service is quick and correct. The employees are very friendly. They take our orders very accurately without any confusion which makes it our favorite for delivery and/or carry out. The food is consistently fresh and delicious and always so flavorful. They do not use MSG which is always a plus. Portions are large and prices are very reasonable! Here is the breakdown of our favorite dishes here... 1.Tom Yum Gai-- very good, chicken is all white meat, mushrooms are tender, and the broth is very fragrant with a kick of spice. I have tried the vegetable Tom Yum and it tastes very different from the chicken variety. Both are yummy- chicken version is the way to go! 2. Panang Chicken- this is one of our staple go- to's for Thai-- and this place does it well. The portion for this is smaller than some of the other dishes we ordered from here. The curry is very flavorful, with a touch of peanut sweetness. I am very bias to another local Thai restaurant in the area, Neisha. I compare all Panang chicken orders to Neisha and I will be honest, Neisha's still wins against Sweet Rice. With that being said-- this is pretty close! 3. Chicken Green Curry- THE BEST GREEN CURRY EVER! I used to not prefer Green curry to Panang, but this place has made me have a change of heart. The Green curry is so flavorful with just enough spice. There is tons of sauce covering the chicken, eggplant, bamboo shoots, green/red peppers and green beans. The extra basil gives it just the right balance. TRY IT! I promise-- YOU will LOVE IT! 4. Pad Thai- it is very good here! Again, it is our favorite in the area. We usually get either Chicken or Pork. They serve Large portions. It is not too greasy, which is a problem with several other Thai restaurants. The noodles are cooked perfectly, Fresh bean sprouts on top. It sometimes could use a little more sauce, but then again---that sometimes equals GREASE. I do prefer Lime on my Pad Thai, but they do no prepare it that way. Still-- tastes delicious without it. 5. Drunken Noodles-- Warming- it is very spicy! Which I love!!! The basil adds a good balance to the heat. The thick noodles are so soft- they melt in your mouth. The Green beans and peppers add a crunchy contrast. We usually get chicken or pork. We have never eaten in the restaurant, but when picking up our food- the ambiance seems nice.

Panang chicken was pretty dope....and it was delivery!

Very good Thai food. I've had the Kapow Delight, Pad Thai, and Gang Gai (green curry). All have been tasty--my favorite was the Kapow Delight with beef. The portions for takeout are quite small, especially the servings of meat. I would be surprised if one meal filled a hungry adult, but I have been spoiled by huge Thai portions from other places. Overall, a great place for Thai right on Route 7 in Falls Church.

You know how to tell whether or not a Thai restaurant is going to be good? Pay attention to your fellow diners. If none of them are Asian, you may be alright, if you're in a very white part of the country. If unsupervised teens are eating there, you might still be okay, as long as they're foodie kids. If people are drinking florescent cocktails (Strawberry Daiquiris, Bahama Mamas, something from Buddha's bellybutton), you might just be there during happy hour, and quite frankly, who doesn't like slurping from a porcelain mermaid's brain stem after a long day of work? However, if you walk into a Thai restaurant and see non-Asians, unsupervised teens, and people drinking novelty drinks, and the vast majority are eating with chopsticks (or trying), your ass is in trouble. I must admit, the "BERVERAGES" (always use spell check when you English not so good and you be cratin an intranet manyu) are tasty, in a guilty pleasure way. My girlfriend's coconut punch was really sweet and tasted like a pina colada mixed with Snookie's new perfume. My Thai iced tea was so jacked up with condensed milk that I got a ca phe sua da at Pho Xe Lua afterward to take the edge off. The Blanky Shrimp ($5.95) were weird and awkwardly shaped, kind of like my childhood friend Martin Blankenship. Could the Blanky Shrimp be named after Martin Blankenship? It's likely. The cologne he wore in fourth grade closely resembled the dipping sauce that accompanied the shrimp. For entrees, my girlfriend got the Pad Thai ($9.95) and I got the Kapow Delight with Beef ($9.95). Rather than discussing it exhaustively, I'm gonna sum up her Pad Thai with two words: neon orange Moving on. I know I probably shouldn't have ordered a dish that includes a sound effect and a related noun (I probably wouldn't order a dish called the Boing Pleasure or the Plop Satisfaction, although I've experienced both), but somehow, the $10 sweet / spicy dish sparked my interest. After tasting this dish, I would say Kapow Delight is a bit of an exaggeration. While it wasn't terrible, the dish would have been more appropriately named something like "Beef with Sweet Sauce. Or maybe "Whack Disappointment." The decor here was nice, as was the service, but we ended up paying more than we wanted for less than expected. In the future, I'll opt for the cheap, awesome Viet food in Eden Center over the mediocre Thai food in the rest of Falls Church, even after eating at Eden Center for five straight days.

I love this restaurant. The meals are light, aromatic and tasty, the decor and lighting are soft, the furnishings comfortable and the ambience is mellow (even when crowded). Service is timely and the waitresses are always polite and efficient. I'm all about the spring rolls and the pad thai, and Singha, of course. Although the prices are a little higher than what I do on a daily basis, it's one of the restaurants I always choose when I'm in the mood for a treat.

  • Caroline P.

I'm biased, but mostly because Thai food is the kind of food I prefer to enjoy via delivery and eat in sweats while watching a movie. Sweet Rice is the only Thai place that delivers to my address. Done and done. With that being said, everything we've ever ordered from here has been consistently good. Highly recommend the tofu Pad Thai and Pad See Ew.

  • Amanda M.

I always see coupons for this place and wanted to check it out. We ordered spring rolls, curry puffs and 2 rice entrees. No flavor at all, something was just off about all the food. We also ordered the fried ice cream, thai iced tea and plum wine. Again, something off about it all. I didn't feel like I was eating Thai food. We spent $60 and felt we could've eaten at a better Thai restaurant for less money.

Tried for the first time because it's near by. The food was okay. Had the green curry fried rice that was generous, nice heat, but could have had a bit more curry paste. Got the beef, which was in such large chunks needed a knife. But it was okay. Also got the grilled chicken w/lemon sauce, which sounded so interesting, but the spices were different and not what I expected or really liked. Last got the Pork w/basil, chili and garlic which was okay. I see what ppl are saying about needing more flavor. I suppose they may cater to those who want thai a bit bland (though that seems a contradiction in terms). From now on I'll drive the extra 10 mins and go to Crystal Thai in Arlington. They're the best I've found in the area so far.

  • Christa H.

I got take out with friends from here a month or so ago. I was really disappointed, especially after reading all of the glowing reviews. My friends both got the Chicken Pad Thai. It was extremely fishy. You couldn't taste the chicken. I got the Panang Chicken. I asked for it to be extra spicy, which was a good thing as it had no flavor otherwise. I don't think I'll be back.

I never even likes Thai food before and now I always want to order delivery from here! Great food. I love the pad see-ew (if I'm spelling it right??!) which is a big flat noodles dish with a yummy sauce and beef.

  • Mer R.

Great vegetarian curry! I would definitely go back. They also deliver which is nice since options are limited around here. This restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside (parking is limited!), but the inside is cute and the food is super good. Best vegetarian curry I've ever had. My boyfriend loved the red curry duck with pineapple and tomatoes. Very reasonably priced also!

    (5)
  • Donald P.

Nice interior, bathroom nice and clean too. We ordered the Crispy Spring Rolls and was a little disappointer to find out that they were vegetarian...so they seemed a little lacking. The Pad Thai was just alright. Not bad but seemed to lack that smile inducing taste. Green Curry lived up to the restaurant name and was indeed very sweet. I liked it but my wife said it was too sweet for her tastes. All in all this place was just okay. I wanted to like this place due to all the other great reviews.

This is closer to 3.5 stars (Darn you yelp rating system). The food here is just average thai food. I found the service exceptional with very nice waiters. I'll be back.

  • Jessica L.

This is a cute little place (seems to be the theme with good Thai restaurants!) on Broad that was recommended to me by my boyfriend's uncle. He's lived in Falls Church for a little over a decade now. It comes close to the quality of food at Pad Thai in Fairfax, but doesn't exactly compare to Pad Thai in Mechanicsville. We ordered the Larb Gai, the Pad See-ew, and the Gang Gai (green curry dish). We were happy with how everything tasted! Not bad at all if you're craving some Thai.

I love Thai food, but I wasn't too impressed with Sticky Rice. We came here on a Monday night for some grub, and were hit with an unpleasant odor when we came in the door (definitely not the odor of food). We sat down anyway, since we'd heard great things about the place. I ordered Pad Kee Mao with tofu, and my friend ordered Pad Thai with chicken. Both were pretty standard, but mine was a little too oily and not particularly delicious. My friend said her food was standard, but nothing to write home about. The portions, though, were definitely filling because I didn't even have room for the mango with sticky rice I usually get for dessert! The service was a bit slow, but definitely friendly and fast. Not a bad place if you're craving Thai, but probably wouldn't be my first choice.

Awesome service, even awesomer food! We are very lucky that Swet Rice is in our neighborhood, but even if it wasn't, the quality of food and the acommodating staff definitely make this place worth a trip from anywhere. One of my favorite appetizers is Num Tok. They did not have it on the menu, so I asked if the chef could make it. Usually it is made with beef, but I asked, since they were making it just for me, could they do it with chicken instead. Not only did they make it for me, but it was seriously the most amazing Num Tok I ever had. Their drunken noodles are also fantastic, as is their Cashew Chicken and Blankey Shrimp. If you are looking for photos and more descriptions of our experience in this restaurant search out Bill and Elena's Northern Virginia Restaurant Blog. This is a terrific restaurant, we will keep coming here.

This is my favorite Thai place in Northern Virginia. The service is excellent and the food delicious. My wife and I have had many dishes here -all wonderful- but our favorites are the Drunken Noodle and the Pineapple Friend Rice. When you order a spicy dish, the chef will make it as hot or mild as you like it, but if you're adventurous and want an authentic experience, ask for "Thai spicy". We bring our family and friends here, and they always enjoy it. It is the best Thai restaurant in the Falls Church area, but also in Northern Virginia.

  • Charles S.

Pretty good Thai food close to home. We must have eaten here 10+ times. The menu is pretty standard. The service is very attentive.. This is the kind of Thai place every neighborhood should have -- and most do.

  • Stephen H.

Ordered Delivery... This place is no Thai Noi... The Tom Yum Gai was different. The springrolls were alright, but the dipping sauce was nasty. The Drunken Noodles were passing, but lacked in flavor. The Satay Chicken is overly greasy and is not very favorable. The Delivery was good. They know to open the steam holes to allow your springrolls to not get soggy...

    (2)
  • Carolyn A.

Solid Thai food at reasonable prices. We had spring rolls, labb ga (larb gai), panang curry chicken, and pad kee mao. Nice flavors, white meat chicken, and good service. Nothing was greasy (even the leftover curry in the fridge). The labb was spicy hot, while the curry and noodles weren't. I definitely plan to return and ask for more spice!

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I've been coming to Sweet Rice since it first opened. I used to always get the Chicken Satay and the Green Curry chicken, but now I get Pad See Ew or Green Curry Fried Rice . They have really good food there. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Thai food. The only thing is, I really wish this place had a different location because parking is kind of odd there, and because this place doesn't get enough business. I wish it got more. :c The waitresses are really nice too.

This review is only for the mango sticky rice which I must say has to be one of the best I've tasted in the area. Called in to order ahead and was in and out quick. I also ordered Thai ice tea which was decent at best.

This was my first Thai since I've been in the area, and it satisfactorily met my craving. We went a little after noon during the week, and it was pretty quiet. The feel is family-run rather than trendy, and I mean this in a good way. It's still clean, and the presentation is good. I decided to start off with their basic Pad Thai, and it passed with flying colors. Also, our waitress, who was dedicated to our table, was quite attentive.

I really wanted to like this place. It's so close and convenient to our house, and I've been looking for a solid Thai place, but Sweet Rice was not it. I ordered takeout from there one night, and we were starving, so we ordered 4 different appetizers and 2 entrees. Overall, everything we ordered majorly lacked flavor. They provided several dipping sauces for each, but the sauces all tasted the same and were not paired very well with the foods. Crispy Spring Rolls: pretty average, but how can you mess up fried spring rolls? Satay: tiny and dry Fried calamari: dry, rubbery, flavorless Curry puff: dry and flavorless Pad Thai: I have never tasted Pad Thai this awful before. Completely lacked flavor, and my noodles were bright orange?! Panang Chicken: probably the best thing we had. Only dish that had a bit of flavor The staff was friendly, but that's about it. Overall, we will not be returning to Sweet Rice, nor will we recommend it.

I order it at least once a week from sweet rice thai cuisine. funny thing is though, every time i go in there to get my take out food, there is almost nobody in there. they do delivery too.. very fast. their food is good. usually i get tofu soup, pad thai and drunken noodle with extra white rice. they have very friendly staffs.

Not sure if this should really matter, but I'll put it out there that I did pick up food from here 10 mins before they were closing. I didn't want anything too heavy since it was late, so I decided to stay with the staple pad thai. Then I tacked on a papaya salad since I had a craving for some and figured it would be a good way to judge their food. The pad thai was okay, not the greatest I had around this area. It wasn't too sweet, but I could've definitely used a lime wedge - which I did not get. I hope other can agree with me, but the shrimps were not that fresh and I could almost see through them (I'm exaggerating, but they weren't white). I wasn't impressed with the papaya salad either because the papaya was dry and wasn't crisp, it wasn't sweet nor sour, and the so called "cherry tomatoes" advertised were just sliced up tomatoes. Call me picky, but I rather spend a few more bucks and go to Neisha Thai or something. But the staff was nice despite it being closing time and the decor was nice, so I would still give this place a second chance but I'd have to try one of their other entrees - recommendations are welcomed!

It's very much a hidden gem in the area. It doesn't look like much, but once you walk it you'd never know it was a little hole in the wall at the end of a strip mall next to a bunch of car repair shops. The people are so very friendly, the food was fantastic and the prices were really good. I do love Thai food and this restaurant defiantely didn't disappoint.

I'm sorry to disagree with everyone but the food here just isn't very good. Save for the spicy coconut soups everything tasted really watered down for the "American" pallate. The service and decor were were good though. I really liked the cute atmosphere. However, the food and even the Thai iced coffee were bland. The parking is limited on the side of the business and it's a little difficult to get in and out of the place during peak traffic hours.

We love Sweet Rice! The panang curry is some of the best I've ever had, and when I decide to take a chance and order something else, I'm never disappointed. (I also love the green curry fried rice and the tom ka gai.) The restaurant atmosphere is relaxing, the staff are great, the service is speedy, and the prices are more than reasonable. My husband and I keep promising each other that we'll try new places when we go out to dinner in our neighborhood, but we always end up at Sweet Rice!

This place is tough to find, but once you find it, you won't ever forget. It right next to Don Beyer Volvo and across from the West Falls Church shopping center. But once you walk in, your transported to a much different restaurant from the looks of the outside. I started with the Tom Yum, which was great, spicy flavorful, great tasting. I then have had the Pad Thai, the Drunken Noodles, and Green Curry. They were all very top notch in the Thai world. And then for dessert, they actually have black sticky rice with mango, and have never seen this at any other Thai restaurant. The owners are always there serving you as well. I think the best restaurants are the ones that are actually run by the owners, the food tastes great. Don't believe these others, its good.

Found out about these guys thanks to my fellow yelpers. My husband and I were looking for Thai delivery and figured we'd give these guys a shot. Sweet Rice is WAAYYYYY better than the other delivery places we've tried in Falls Church, and I really like that it isn't part of a chain. The food was delicious, very flavorful and super yummy. We live close enough that delivery was free too. Several folks have commented on the portion size being small, but I found them to be similarly sized to any other take out I've done. One serving was enough to split up into three meals for me, and I thought the price was very reasonable. I'm throwing in my two cents because as others have mentioned, it seems like it could really use some more business. It is really good food, for a really good price, and I'd hate to see it go.

We have a Groupon deal, so came here on a Sunday for late lunch. Parking was not a problem. They do have a very small parking lot on the side. I am not sure if parking could be a problem during busy lunch/dinner hours. The restaurant was almost empty when we came. We were seated right away. Staff was friendly. They didn't speak much and both waitress were soft spoken. We ordered satay, 2 drunken noodle (one not spicy) and pad Thai. These three things were basically how we judge a Thai restaurant. Chicken satay was good, but the pickled vegetables that came with it didn't taste right. Drunken noodle had string bean in it, which was a first for me. It was spicier than expected, but the flavor was good. Pad Thai was sweeter than what I am used to. It came with raw bean sprout, which was also the first time I saw it. The shrimp in Pad Thai did not taste very fresh. Overall, it was a good meal. It was a pleasant place to have meal. The wait staff were nice. The food was not awful. If I happen to be in the area and want to find a place to have lunch, I will probably stop by.

Just had my first delivery from Sweet Rice and it's something I will definitely do again ! Reasonable prices and fairly tasty food, you can't go wrong. Delivery took about 35 minutes.

One of the few places I've found where I can get a real Northern Thailand truckstop meal! (and just to be clear the truckstops in Thailand are sparkly clean with a great variety of the Thai version of "fast food" for very little cash). I even went there mere days after returning from my last Thailand trip when I was craving the food I ate every day on the road and was not disappointed! I have to admit that I always order the same thing, so can't really speak to the rest of the menu: Chicken Satay (which, admittedly, is an Indonesian dish, but widely available at truck stops), Green papaya salad with Sticky rice. The green papaya salad and sticky rice are particularly authentic, and it pleases me to no end that they will serve you plain sticky rice, unlike other nearby thai restaurants that claim that the "sweet with mango" dessert variety is the only one they have (um... can't you just not put the sweet stuff on it?)

It makes me sad to admit that I just don't love this joint as much as I once did. I wonder if the quality/quantity of the food is a casualty of not getting as much business as they should or the overall increase in foodstuff prices (that's entree ingredients, people). I moved to the FC about 4 years ago and was elated to find tasty Thai food in a small family-run type joint after having to leave behind my mostfavoriteever Thai place in Wheaton. Plus, it wasn't a chain *cough*TaraThai*cough*. Lately though, eh, my love has been waning by the food merely being OK and a little greasy. Good for a hangover, but not perhaps when you're palate is feeling a little more Thai-refined. I still like to give them some business here and there though hoping on hope that things will get better.

I've been on the road for two weeks, and the second week only netted me two good meals. What do you think I did as soon as I got back? I went on a mission with my dining companion to find good food! At first glance, the decor of this place is quite charming. I looked over the menu and noticed there were a few things that stood out. I decided to order the Larb Gai as an appetizer and the Beef Ka Pow as my entree, along with Thai Iced Coffee. The Larb Gai was spicier than I would have liked. I wondered what kind of price I would pay for it later, if you know what I mean. I didn't breathe fire out of my nose or mouth, but I felt if I blew across the table hard enough, I could singe the eyebrows of my table mate. It wasn't Bangkok 54 spicy (holy Christ, I start sweating at the thought of my experience there), but if I order it again, I will tell them mild rather than "between mild and medium". The Ka Pow was not too bad. The quality of the beef was aight; nothing really tender or special. The sauce had a nice flavor to it; a little garlicky, a slight hint of spice. It was an adequate portion and came with a bowl of rice. It wasn't the best Thai food I'd ever had, but I would return if in the area. They have their own parking lot, by the way.

It's the best Thai in Falls Church. The staff is friendly, and proficient. I wish they had lunch specials that were cheaper, but that's my only request. Everything else I hope stays the same, especially the Mango Sticky Rice!

Had the chicken and green curry, some thai iced coffee and the taro pearls with coconut custard for dessert. Everything was awesome. Also tried the ginger iced tea. it was also fantastic. Neat little place, well decorated and excellent food. I'll definitely be back.

A decent Thai place and worth the trip if you live in the Falls Church area. Sweet rice serves up good satay and other standard fair. The service can be quite hands off after they initially sit you down.

This place is fine. The iced coffee was fine, but not as good as I've had at some other places. The pad thai was fine, but not as good as I've had at some other places. The cashew chicken was fine, but not as good as I've had at some other places. You get the picture.

Sweet Rice Thai Cuisine is probably a lot like the majority of Thai restaurants in our area - fairly tasty food at a price that won't break the bank, but with few standouts on the menu. What does standout about Sweet Rice is its cozy interior. Soft colors and pillow-lined booths create a relaxing space - a comfy oasis on the otherwise frantic Rt.7 corridor. Conveniently located within a mile of West Falls Church station and a stone's throw from the W & O.D. Trail, Sweet Rice presents an amiable alternative to starving through another Tysons Corner commute. I started my meal with the Tom Kha Gai which is described by Sweet Rice as: Tender slices of chicken breast in a creamy coconut milk soup with exotic spices and herbs. My first experience with this dish, and I would have preferred a more creamy soup, yet it was pretty good and had some comfort food value. It didn't wow me, but it was good enough that I gladly finished the bowl. My entree was Gai-Yang which is described by Sweet Rice as: Marinated half whole chicken grilled served with spicy tamarind sauce. Frankly, the menu description of 'half whole chicken' still perplexes me. Basically, the marinated chicken is cooked very nicely (perhaps a little dry), has a tasty flavor and is served as a pretty sizeable portion with rice and steamed vegetables. The tamarind sauce however...not my favorite. I concluded my meal by taking a chance on the Taro Custard. I've never had Taro anything, and was delightfully pleased with the custard's moist texture and mildly sweet flavor. The portion was little small for me, but I really did enjoy it. Service was okay and the staff was very pleasant, but there was a minor snafu with my soup order. Originally, they brought out the wrong soup and it took a bit of effort to flag down the server. As I ordered by the number on the menu, there really isn't a reason to be confused on my order - but not a huge deal since I wasn't watching the clock. 3.5 stars - Decent thai food, convenient location, and a modestly priced menu. I would recommend checking this place out if it's on your way home - they also offer carryout and their full menu is available online. It probably won't become your favorite restaurant, but it's a comfy and convenient option that you might decide to visit from time to time. Happy Dining!

The feed was delicious, the price reasonable and service outstanding. We started with the curry puff appetizer, which is minced chicken and spices banked in a puff pastry and I thought it was very good. The waitress recommended a sea food soup that was unbelievable - and I mean unbelievable. This soup is worth the trip alone, and I'm not a huge soup guy; the broth was spicy and had squid, shrimp, scallops and even an oyster! My wife and I shared the drunken noodle, which is called something else on the menu that I don't recall, but the waitress knew exactly what I was referring to and politely pointed it out. The portion size was generous. It wasn't incredibly spicy, but it did have some heat. I'd probably prefer just a little more spice, but note I still give them 4 stars. The ambiance is modern and fun inside, despite the drab appearance from the road. I finished the mean with a Thai iced tea that was very sweet and hit the spot. I don't recall how much we spent, but I think it was under $40 with tax & 20% tip (we did share the drunken noodle). We'll be back.

I love Sweet Rice, I think it's my favorite Thai place that I've tried in the Falls Church/Tysons area. I worry about them staying in business though - business is often very slow when I go in there. The one caveat I'd have about the food here is that the pad thai isn't actually very good. I know it's a favorite for many, but if you come here and order the pad thai you won't enjoy it much and would form an unfairly negative view of this place. Everything else I've ordered from here has been excellent, and they have some very creative dishes. Some favorites are the Tom Kha Gai, pasta panang, green curry fried rice, and the fried chicken red curry (this last one is a special that is only occasionally listed but they can make on request if you know to ask).

I have eaten at Sweet Rice twice now, and had polar opposite experiences. The first was about a month ago when I ordered in with a friend of mine, and it seemingly took forever. Perhaps because she lives in fairly esoteric apt. complex or maybe because I was starving, the wait was around 45 minutes. *note: post pick up soccer Sweet Thai is not appropriate! I had dumplings and the pad thai. The pad thai was generous and quite tasty even if there wasn't an overwhelming number of shrimp. It was good. The following occasion we went for pickup and it was sent out to us extremely quickly and the pad thai was even better than the first time. I recommend Sweet Thai, but beware ordering in! Also, as mentioned in an earlier posting, the interior decoration is very nice. Enjoy.

Great Thai joint close to the house. We can do it as a dress up place on a date night, casual place when you are just trying to eat some good Thai, or great take-out or delivery option. The food is what you would expect, great curry, great pad thai, and great soups ( my wife really likes them). I love the shrimp appetizer, I think it's called blanky shrimp, so delicate and so delicious! If you are in the area stop by and give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

I couldn't help but be impressed by this place. So many restaurants have come and gone at this location, but I really hope Sweet Rice stays. The decor is very charming, and the atmosphere is very relaxed and calm. Their Pad Thai is sweeter than most I've had, but it isn't greasy at all, and all the ingredients seem fresh. Their Thai tea is also perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here; however my bf wasn't overly impressed. He claimed he would have been happier eating a bucket of lard instead of paying for the fatty duck he got, and he wasn't very happy with the black sticky rice and mango, insisting that the traditional white sticky rice is just better. I'm pretty sure his feelings were based mostly on the fact that I preferred Sweet Rice to his favorite Thai restaurant, Pilin's, down the street. Overall I was perfectly satisfied, and I plan on returning with or without him.

Best Thai food I've had in a long time, and I eat Thai food at least once a week all around the country. This place is a true gem-- if you're in the area (which has a zillion thai places), you're missing out if you haven't yet been there. Cozy, funky decor, knowledgeable waitstaff, creative beverages (lemongrass juice over ice; ginger smoothies), plus generous portions, all lovingly prepared with top-notch fresh ingredients. My co-worker started off with summer rolls, and I couldn't help but steal a half. They were very fresh, with a great balance of herbs and veggies in there. Super-refreshing. I had the som tom which was freakin' awesome. Next, we both got soup: I got my usual tom kha gai, and he got the tom yum goong. He said his soup was great, and I know my soup was among the best I've had. Seriously. I decided to have another appetizer for my entree, so I went with the Yum Nua, which is one of the two beef salads. Again, freakin' incredible. Great steak, deliciously seasoned. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My co-worker got the Panang Seafood, (seafood simmered with curried peanut sauce and fresh basil leaves sprinkled with shredded lime leaves served with steamed broccoli), and he was so happy with it that he wished he could bring some home to his wife. (They're from Canada, so that wasn't likely.) His plate was overflowing with really wonderful-looking seafood... shrimp, calamari, scallops... he said it was just out of this world. I finished off my giant meal with some black sticky rice with mango, which was perfect. Seriously, I am lamenting that I live many hours away from this restaurant. I found the prices to be super-reasonable. All of that food, plus two drinks each came out to about $62. Can't go wrong (especially when work is paying for it...)

Fantastic little place for reliably delicious Thai food, and a comfortable atmosphere (albeit on the quiet side). The Panang curry is very good (very flavorful but not greasy), the mango and sticky rice is wonderful- the perfect balance of juicy and sweet mango to earthy sticky rice with coconut milk. If you're looking for a unique experience, try the ginger smoothie- it's spicy with a little bit of heat, but surprisingly refreshing and sweet. My one piece of advice is to avoid the house salad, which is literally lettuce with a dollop of the ground peanut mash (used for the Satay Chicken) as the dressing.

Second try at delivery. All as promised. Pretty small portions for the price. Not bad food just "eh" food. Not much to recommend it as a carry out place. Can't speak to the dine in crowd.

By giving it 3 stars, I mean to say it's average compared to all their competition in NoVA...average in food and decor, and appears to be in a cost-cutting mode. My "special" dish last night (forgive me, connoisseurs -- it was a fried rice concoction with chicken, ham and tofu) was really lacking in flavor, which I thought was impossible with Thai cuisine. On the upside, it wasn't oily at all. So I asked for the extra hot condiment tray, which only offered 3 choices as opposed to 4 elsewhere, and they helped some. Re: cost-cutting -- none of the tables in my view had any condiments like common salt and pepper or soy sauce, or a candle or flower (fake or real), you know. And the tables look like they were bought at a restaurant auction. That's ok, but why not refurbish them? Simple linens could do. Overall, it's not bad, but it won't wow you. They get good business, so hopefully they'll spend it on obtaining the wow factor.

I ordered take out from here today. They delivered fairly quickly and the food arrived nice and hot. I had the Satay which was tasty but the pieces of chicken were really thin. The peanut sauce was very good. I also had the Tom Kha Gai soup. The chicken was a little tough and the broth was a bit oily. For my entree I had the Panang Chicken. It was supposed to be spicy but it really missed its mark and was very mild. Over all the food was good and they delivered quickly. This is a good place to order from if you're tired of pizza but the food missed the mark a touch. It wasn't awful but it wasn't addictingly good either. Will I order again? Yes but it won't be my first choice.

Today I went to Sweet Rice and this has been my third time there since the beginning of the year. I absolutely adore this little place off of busy Broad street. If you are coming from rt 66, just go pass the McDonald's on your right and through the traffic light and then slowwwww down as it is a quick right on your right hand side. It is very easy to miss so just drive slowly. The restauarnt is small and cozy. There are booths and tables and chairs; and one wall has a long bench that stretches along it with tables and chairs. The bench is padded with pillows. Very comfy. The food is fantastic and moderately priced. Let's see...today I had the curry puffs appetizer (which is my favorite-$3.95) and my entree was simply the kao pad fried rice ($8.95). I LOOOVE this dish! Something about thai cooking makes fried rice better than chinese cooking! the rice is fragrant, soft and flavorful mixed with a nice textural crispness of the fried onions and veggies included. With this entree you can have either chicken, pork or shrimp- I have had both chicken and pork on seperate occasions and they were both fantastic. For beverages, this restuarant serves alchohol in new and interesting drinks as well as a wide array of non-alcoholic drinks. I love the jasmine tea which is sweet and fragrant with no bitterness that you usually find in packaged teas (they add ginger or green tea). My friends had the jasmine tea too but had to add some sugar which was thoughtfully available on our table. The staff are beautiful and shy women who are both quick and friendly. They immediately put you at ease with their hospitality and big smiles. Like I said in the beginning, I consider it moderately priced because even though my lunch was inexpensive, my two friends ordered some of the specialty dishes which brought up our tab a little more. However, still go! This is one restuarant that can back up the price per dish!

Awful! Just ordered takeout for the first time. Oily, flavorless, made from frozen, inedible crap. Literally inedible: the kids and I ended up throwing it out. What did we order? Pad Thai, beef noodles, tom kai soup (tasted like Campbell's vegetable soup with tabasco---and I have a cold and really wanted a good hot-and-sour soup!), taro custard, fried banana, spring rolls. The kids are actually still laughing over how bad it was---at least we got that out of the experience. Did I say the oil was old and clearly not kept hot enough? Did I say it was premade and not fresh? Ew!

I've ordered delivery from Sweet Rice twice recently, and been impressed both times. Good, solid thai food and they deliver to my house...or else, they did twice. Unfortunately, I was informed on Thursday when I ordered that their delivery area was 3 miles, and that the 3.4 mile drive to my house exceeds it and they won't deliver to me again. So...good food, they deliver, but be sure to check the distance between your house and the restaurant -- when they say 3 miles, they mean it!

This place is wonderful. Portion size is perfect. A quality restaurant serves the food in a manner that allows the patron to eat it in one setting. Take home bags should not be a given. I have never left that place hungry. I have had many different dishes there and the dishes always have great flavor but not TOO MUCH. If you like dishes with ginger then you will not be disappointed. I love ginger so I always get the ginger ice tea. If you are vegetarian, they have an excellent selection of spicy and nonspicy foods. Personally I like the panang tofu. I have also had and would recommend: Ginger Ice Tea, Tom Kha Gai soup, Tofu soup, Larb Gai, Chicken Satay, spring rolls, the dumplings, any noodle dish, the panang salmon, and the black rice and mango. If you want it "Thai Hot" as my roommate in college would say and her mother was Thai, they will do go full-on Thai for you. (Yes, I know what real Thai food tastes like.) They want patrons to have a good culinary experience. The wait staff also really likes kids. This is one of my go-to places when my spouse is out of town; I am tired from work, and want to eat out with my two young kids. They make it easy and the food is delightful. They are worth your time and if you can't come to them, they will deliver but the staff is so delightful it is good to go in person.

Thai food, just like any other ethnic food served up to the masses, can go terribly wrong when done haphazardly. Sweet Rice, lucky for you and me, doesn't do haphazard. The food is pretty good, a little bit more tasty than the Thai food I've had at other restaurants. The various flavors of the dishes come together a little bit better here - the sweet is sweeter the sour more sour and the spicy a bit more spicier. The interior is nicer than most other Thai restaurants and has a slight Mod feel to it. There isn't really any dish I'd recommend but in the same token there isn't any I'd say to stay away from. I gave the place three stars because its located in a tiny strip of stores off of busy route 7 and the place has a few parking spots.

I've tried a few Thai places in the NoVA area, and Sweet Rice is the only one I'd return to so far. I can't speak to whether it's authentic, but it's truly delicious. I highly recommend the Tom Kha Gai, Crispy Springrolls, and Kapow Beef - all excellent. I've eaten there over a half dozen times and haven't experienced consistency problems others have reported - my food has always been amazing.
